- Which ideas from the video reflect what the ELA teachers you interviewed are currently doing to integrate technology with their literacy instruction?
The teacher I interviewed mentioned using comic creation programs as
well as online vocabulary games as ways to integrate technology into literacy
instruction. There are a number of free applications that are widely available
and many students are even excited to use the programs during their free time
at home.
- How can you help change their instructional practices to include the use of technology and the Internet in their literacy and content-area curriculum?
I believe blogs for each of the students would be a wonderful way to include
more technology into the classroom. The students would need to write something
on their blog every day, regardless if it as about their day, something that
they are interested in, or even a short story they thought of. The teacher
could also present a daily challenge on the class blog to get the students
excited to check their blogs. Some ideas would be word searches and riddles.
- What professional development and/or resources will they need in order to make these changes?
A workshop
on blog creation would be vital, so that the teacher has a good grasp on how blogs
are created and function. It would also be beneficial if the teacher received
some training on how to introduce blog creation to students in a way that was
easy to understand.
- What ideas do you have for grouping students so they will have equal access to technology in the classroom?
When there are not enough computers available for each student to use at
the same time, stations are a great way to allow students to have equal
technology access. While some students are completing the challenge of the day
on the computer, others could be writing and editing their daily blog post on
paper to later type and post on their blog. The students would all rotate to
every station until everyone has completed their computer work for the day.
